IFT Status Updates
While your puppies are here at Guide Dog College, we know it is important to you to know how they are doing! Updates are sent out to puppy raisers via email, typically three times throughout training.
If you missed an email update, or just want to check in on your pup's current status, you can now look up the most current update information below! Expand your pup's IFT Class below, and click their name to check in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Raisers will receive up to 3 updates throughout their training. The first update comes within the first two months when the dog has passed all medical testing and is assigned an instructor. A second update will be sent out approximately halfway through training, once the dog has passed their Preliminary Testing. A third update will be sent out after the dog has passed their Final Testing and waiting for their student match.
When we send out updates, we do like to send out the updates to everyone in an IFT class at the same time. So we do wait until all dogs in an IFT class has reached the same benchmark before sending out information. Every dog requires different strategies, time etc. So, there can be times when there may be a few extra weeks before an update comes out. If you have questions about how your dog is doing, reach out to our team. We will answer you as quickly as we can.
We know you miss your pups once they come in for training. However, during this time it is really important that they continue forming a relationship with their instructor. The stronger that relationship is, the more they are able to learn. Coming to visit them during this time can create some confusion for them. They do also have a very structured day, play routine etc. And changing this can make things a bit confusing.
Our team will reach out and let you know about half way through class that your puppy has been matched. So, you will recieve about two weeks notice about an upcoming graduation.
Raisers will receive a phone call from the training department if they are placed in the Support K9 program. Raisers will receive another phone call once a placement has been made with an agency. Length of training in the Support K9 placement is almost completely dependent upon the agencies that are interested in obtaining a Support K9 and that agency’s navigation of internal processes prior to placement. All Support K9 dogs receive daily enrichment and training until placement.
