The Guide Dogs of the Desert Mini-documentary Video: Leading the Way

The Guide Dogs of the Desert mini-documentary video, Leading the Way continues to be recognized for excellence. In mid-2023, GDD contracted with local journalists, Anndee Laskoe and Ian Hughes, known as Box of Kittens, to create a short video that tells the Guide Dogs of the Desert story. Anndee and Ian loved the project so much that they used what they had captured to create the mini-documentary.

“There are some stories that become a part of you. The Guide Dogs of the Desert story is one of those,” said Anndee.

After countless production days over the span of several months, we felt incredibly connected to the selfless staff who facilitate these life-changing bonds, to the smart and irresistibly adorable dogs, and to the many clients, each so brave in their pursuit of a guide dog. We LOVE this story and are honored to be recognized with an Emmy nomination.”

Little did we all know how much attention the mini-documentary would create–it has received 3 Silver Awards (Branded Content in Film, Video & Sound, Editing) from the American Advertising Federation, CV chapter. It’s received an Emmy Nomination from The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – Pacific Southwest Chapter, with the awards presentation on June 15. Finally, it was selected to be screened at the Palm Springs International Film Society’s ShortFest 2024, at 3:30 p.m. on June 23rd, at the Regal Cinemas.
