Adoptions

Thank you very much for your interest in adopting a dog from Guide Dogs of the Desert.  We are very fortunate in that the vast majority of our dogs are placed in either our Guide Dog or Support K9 programs.

On occasion, we have a dog that does not meet the health or temperament standards for either of these programs and becomes available for adoption to the public.  The amount of training these dogs have received will vary greatly and none of them are appropriate to become a Service Dog.  On average, 4 dogs each year are in need of a pet home.

Guide Dogs of the Desert uses Labrador Retrievers and Standard Poodles, the majority of these dogs are between 1 and 3 years old. The current cost to adopt a dog is $2,500.

Please understand that availability of adoptable dogs is unpredictable and could take months or years depending on your preferences.

Looking to add a furry friend to your home sooner than later? We do have volunteer opportunities for families to host one of our program dogs. Learn more below!
